What to do next when you receive your ATAR Score
The ATAR is what will get you into uni. It stands for Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank and is calculated by the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) based on your overall academic achievement in Year 12.
It’s based on rank, not performance. So if you get an ATAR of 80, it means you performed better than 80 per cent of students – you’re in the top 20 per cent!
What to do next when you achieve your desired ATAR?
- Congratulations! You will soon receive offer letters from university that you did put on your reference by 21st December 2015
- Here is what you need to consider before accepting offer: the cost of tuition fee if your parents can afford, career that you aim for and what you are passionate about
- Forward your offer letter with one of your international student friend's offer letter to info.melb@set-edu.com or contact us at 0403518718 so we can help you further steps in accepting offer and student visa extention application and scholarship of $500 for group of 2 students apply together through SET Education. Our service is free of charge!
What if your ATAR is low?
- Do not despair if your score is lower than you expected. The most important thing to remember is that your ATAR/OP is just a number — it won’t matter once you’re studying or out in the workforce. You should also keep in mind that cut-off scores (the minimum scores required for course entry) vary between courses and institutions. While there are some fields that are always going to demand near-perfect scores, many others have a wider range of cut-offs (business, communications and psychology are all good examples). This means that if your ATAR is too low for your dream course, it might still grant you entry into an institution with lower demand that offers a very similar course, or allow you to take a slightly different route to your end goal.
- If your ATAR is only slightly lower than the previous year’s cut-off, it may be best to leave your preference list as it is. You may still receive a course offer, as cut-offs fluctuate depending on demand.
- There are many pathways as an alternative route taken to your first-choice course or institution. This might involve starting out with a lower-level qualification like Diploma or Foundation. After 1 year studying one of these course, you can enter to either first year or second year of bachelor. Contact us at 0403518718 so we can discuss the best options for you. Again, there is no service fee from us.
