First of all, I must confess that education for prisoners can possibly contribute to the reduction of crimes. That is because such form of education could provide lawbreakers with the working skills that are essential when they re-enter society. With fortified job prospects, inmates may therefore have a better chance at rehabilitation after leaving prison and are less likely to become reoffenders. Besides, offering correctional education to the wrongdoers also helps them realize that they are still appreciated by society; thus, it encourages them to become better citizens after their sentences. Obviously, the odds of recidivism could be much lower.

However, I honestly think that having offenders educated is not always the best solution. That is because only those who have broken the laws are offered education, and therefore it has less preventative value compared to other stronger measures. For instance, applying severe punishments such as longer imprisonment could deter those, who have the intention to carry out illegal acts, from committing them. Also, other educational measures will have better long-lasting impact on crimes reduction. One good example is that crimes education at school can equip students with the necessary knowledge about crimes and crimes prevention. This is undeniably a much more sustainable crime-fighting solution than educating inmates.

To conclude, I firmly believe that although educating prisoners is a good way to reduce crimes, it is far from being the best answer, as there are more preventative and sustainable measures such as crimes education at school and stricter punishments for criminals.
