Collaboration on Digital Central between UTS and the University of Sydney
The two leading universities in Australia, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and the University of Sydney have recently signed a collaboration agreement on Digital Central. This collaboration aims to leverage the strengths of both universities in digital science and technology, fostering global-scale research and industry success.
The partnership within Digital Central will drive research programs and technological innovation, creating a conducive environment for businesses to access cutting-edge research, skills, and digital technology innovations. This initiative will boost employment growth and support New South Wales (NSW) in its goal of becoming a world-leading digital industry hub.
ABOUT DIGITAL CENTRAL
Green Gate Consulting has been announced as the first major project by partners combining internship programs from UTS and the University of Sydney: Jacaranda Flame and Optik. Under this collaboration, high-achieving students from engineering departments at both universities will form consulting teams for clients in the industry, with opportunities to work with industry partners in fields ranging from biomedical engineering to artificial intelligence systems.
The Green Gate Consulting project is the result of collaboration between the internship programs of UTS and the University of Sydney: Jacaranda Flame and Optik. Accordingly, students with high academic achievements from engineering disciplines at both universities will form consulting teams for industry clients. This team will have the opportunity to work with industry partners in various fields, from biomedical engineering to artificial intelligence systems.
The establishment of the Green Gate Consulting project marks a significant step forward in the collaboration between Australia’s top universities. This project will provide engineering students with opportunities to gain real-world work experience and accumulate professional expertise. Green Gate Consulting will shorten the time spent on theoretical learning in the classroom and internships in the real world through a 12-week extended program.
THREE CURRENTLY ONGOING PROJECTS INCLUDE:
- Using artificial intelligence to minimize risks and improve the quality of production of biomedical implants.
- Developing an AI software platform to help defence contractors manage and drive innovation.
- Leveraging artificial intelligence to create a safer environment by utilizing existing surveillance technologies.
The Tech Central project aims to provide the vision for the blind, led by ARIA Research – a startup founded by a group of leading scientists and engineers. ARIA Research’s technology is based on human echolocation, where blind individuals can perceive objects around them by listening to the echoes of sounds they produce. ARIA Research has developed a wearable device capable of recording and analyzing these sound waves, creating a 3D map of the surrounding environment. Over the past three years, the ARIA Research project has been developed in collaboration with the engineering departments of the University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney.
Professor Andrew Parfitt, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of UTS stated: “In this era of technological advancement, the world is being shaped at an unprecedented pace, and the role of universities in driving innovation and collaboration has never been more important”.
He continued: “Universities such as UTS and the University of Sydney are joining forces to address complex global issues, benefiting our partners, students, governments, and communities”.
