Hello everyone, it’s Annie here! I’ve been studying in Melbourne, Australia for two years now. Apart from being a full-time Human Resource student, I’ve also tried my hand at various other jobs such as waitressing at a Vietnamese restaurant, and now I’m interning at SET. In the beginning, I was very stressed because I didn’t know how to balance everything, unsure of how to excel in my studies while still optimizing my work. But Annie is doing better now; I’ve managed to find a balance and fully enjoy the experience of studying abroad.
Today, I’ll share with you a little about my journey!

Study in Australia – English isn’t my strong suit, what should I do?

Entering an international environment requires a lot of preparation to confidently take firm steps forward. For me, having English certification is crucial because it opens doors to studying at reputable universities and provides a solid foundation for absorbing and effectively applying classroom exercises. So, studying for the IELTS exam is essential, as it is an internationally recognized qualification, highly valued in Australia.
Learning a new language can be challenging, but we can do it with a little effort every day, and our dream of studying in Australia will no longer be distant!

Study in Australia – Making Friends in the “Adult World”

As we grow up and step into the vast world, finding companions to share and support us is always a concern. How should I behave? Why so many “whys”? But don’t worry, we’re all children learning to grow up, and making friends also takes time.
I used to think I would only hang out with Vietnamese people because we could empathize with each other due to our shared heritage. But my mom once said, “Boarding a plane is a new journey, so don’t limit your perspective.” In Australia, I’ve learned to be more open-minded, and I’ve met friends from various countries. I’ve realized that while we may differ in cultural backgrounds, our way of showing love remains the same.
So, let’s maintain an optimistic spirit and always smile because friends are always around us, waiting for us to open our hearts and embrace the goodness!

Study in Australia – Is Australia really expensive?

Yes, I agree, but let’s talk quietly about spending habits!
Pre-cooked meals sound delicious, right? But as a student, eating out daily is costly and impractical for saving money. I prioritize grocery shopping and cooking at home, which is both tasty and healthy. In Melbourne, we have supermarkets like Aldi, Woolies, and Coles, offering reasonable prices and end-of-day deals.

As a girl, there are expenses for bubble tea, hair, nails, and, of course, shopping!
So, besides studying, I also work part-time at a restaurant, which I find enjoyable. I can share more about it in a blog later! We can find jobs on platforms like Indeed, Seek, LinkedIn, or student groups (VASA). Additionally, with a well-crafted CV, we can apply directly to our favorite places.

“Being Alone” – Is it sad?

“Homesick,” the longing for home that everyone experiences, those days when all you want is your mom’s cooking and to hear your dad’s voice scolding you. It’s sad, but I have to feel it to live independently and make my parents proud, right?
Eating alone, studying alone, and going out alone can feel lonely, but trust me, you’ll see it differently. Being alone is a time for self-reflection, figuring out what to improve, and how to do it. I believe on the path to adulthood, we should learn to befriend ourselves. And the journey of studying abroad has taught me this. Little things can make me happy all day, I become more independent and stronger than I thought. So, while studying abroad may sometimes feel lonely due to homesickness, trust me, any sadness will be compensated for because we’re young, and a bright future is always ahead.
So there, my little sharing ends here. I hope these few words will help you have a more objective view of the Land Down Under!
