ANU Offers Direct Admission for Vietnamese student
DIRECT ADMISSION FOR VIETNAMESE STUDENT
Accordingly, students do not need to graduate from high school to apply to the school with their academic transcripts. Students who wish to apply must have a GPA from Grade 12 of at least 8.5; and an IELTS English certificate with a score of 6.5, with no skill below 6.0 (similar requirements apply to other certificates such as PTE, and TOEFL).
Subsequently, ANU converts students’ GPA to ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Ranking – the ranking among high school graduates in Australia). The higher the ATAR, the more opportunities candidates have to choose the “hot” fields of study at the university. According to Mr. Andy Pham, Senior Manager for the Mekong region at ANU, he shared the reasons for making the decision above.
WHAT BENEFITS DO THESE CHANGES BRING?
Mr.Andy Phạm consulted at Study Expo 02/2023
– The new policy helps Vietnamese students to enrol earlier, as early as July, reducing the pressure of exams as well as cumbersome procedures, while increasing the chance of winning scholarships.
– ANU has observed that there isn’t much difference between academic transcripts and graduation scores after studying students’ academic performance, along with reports from the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training.
“This is fairer compared to before when we used to consider high school graduation scores, as many candidates struggled in subjects that weren’t their strengths, such as literature,” an ANU representative added regarding the new policy. Every year, ANU offers over 200 scholarships of 25% and 50% for international students at all levels of study, including those from Vietnam. According to Mr. Andy, the average tuition fee at ANU is currently around 48,000-50,000 AUD per year (759-790 million VND).
The new policy helps alleviate some of the pressure for students applying. Previously, students needed to achieve a graduation score of 9.4 or above to qualify for a 50% scholarship. However, with the new policy, students with a Grade 12 average score above 9.4 are eligible for consideration.
